Why does Philip Morris also invest in helping people quit smoking?

Philip Morris makes and sells cigarettes. In other words, they kill people and cause cancer. On purpose. Intentionally. Yet for some reason they also invest lots of their own company money in programs to help people quit smoking. Wait, they do what....? Yeah. They do.

So this horrible company not only causes addiction which leads to cancer and then death and make billions of dollars in doing so, they make even more money helping people to stop using their product that will cause them cancer and likely death. Sounds a like a wonderful company to work for.

I recently discovered that Altria (Philip Morris) owns Chateau Ste Michelle wines and also MillerCoors (SABMiller). I literally dumped an entire full body of wine down the drain because it felt like I had a pack of cigarettes in my house. Disgusting. I am disgusted with this company. So f-ing sneaky.

Drinking that wine and those who drink Miller or Coors products are supporting cigarettes that kill people and cause cancer. Fabulous.

So back to the concept of this horrible company both causing and solving for the same thing. They literally sell a product that intentionally kills people, but also sell a product (program) that prevents people from getting "too addicted" from a product that literally causes addiction due to it containing nicotine, so they do not get cancer and die. How on earth does this make any sense to anyone?

Sell a product > get people to stop buying it who love to buy their product. This is the only company on the planet that does this. Most companies want people to buy their product and continue buying their product because of how great the product is.

Let's compare this to chewing gum. Bubbalicious Bazooka you name it bubble gum. Let's say all these bubble gum companies come up with a program that costs money to help people quit chewing their gum. A company that both sells gum....aaaaand also sells a program to stop chewing gum. How ridiculous does this sound???
