This is part 2 to my "Why the headaches?" post here. After getting a new office chair, which was life-changing by the way, I also started wearing glasses at my computer for work, bought a new pillow, and a new bed mattress.
After I figured out the whole pillow thing and was sitting in my new throne at my desk, I was still getting headaches. This time for a different reason. I was stumped. After having many conversations with friends and family, my own sister told me
she began to wear glasses while working at her computer. The weird thing was that she had Lasik only a year before, so I was surprised that she needed computer glasses. I actually own glasses that were...
10 years old! I kept them in my car and only wore them occasionally if I was driving at night during a rain storm (oh, the glares!) or I would wear them at the movie theater. So, I gave them a try at my desk. LIFE-CHANGING! I had no idea wearing a basic lens, prescription eye glasses would make my headaches go away! I had no idea that I had been straining my eyes, even though I never felt like I was squinting. I was, however, leaning forward to look closer at my computer screen without realizing it. Now, with my glasses, I can sit back in my throne, all comfy, and no eye strain.
I keep mentioning my fabulous office chair, so you better check it out: "Dormeo Espo Octaspring Faux Leather Managers Office Chair, Fixed Arms, Gray (47055)" from Staples.
Ok, check-point: New chair and wearing glasses. So obviously I bought a new pillow. Well, 3 new pillows. I went to the "pillow store" and tried out some pillows. The first pillow I bought and slept on for one single night before returning it the next day. Not for me! It was a down/memory foam mix and, honey, I am a memory foam chica all the way, so that did not work for me. The 2nd pillow I bought and brought home was a contoured type which allowed me to only sleep on my side or back. It did feel free while sleeping on my back or side, but after about 2 months, I took it back and returned it. I am too much of a belly sleeper to commit to the side/back lifestyle. My current and 3rd and hopefully last pillow (for a while) is great! It's 3 layers: down on the bottom, regular foam in the middle, and memory foam on top. The top is where I lay my pretty little head, and memory foam is what hugs my head at night. Love'n it!

Lastly, I bought a new mattress. No joke, I slept on a Bob-o-pedic memory foam mattress for 10 years! It was soooo good at first and I think in the last year I decided it was going south. Just wasn't the same spark I originally had. Instead, we got a mattress with double layer wrapped coil topped with gel and memory foam. Also upgraded from a queen to a king, so my husband and I can really spread out and when my toddler makes a random weekend-morning appearance, we aren't so squished.
And so, I literally did a 180 with my daytime situation working at my computer and my night sleeping situation.
Next up: the Calm app post.
