Why do reality shows on television insist on showing previews of 'what's to come' before each commercial break?

Do you notice these days even with the invention of DVR that reality shows love to show a quick preview of what will happen later in the episode before each commercial break? Do you also notice that sit-coms and dramas with real actors do not and never have shown previews before the commercial breaks? Why do reality shows do this? Even if you do not have the luxury of DVR to fast-forward through the commercials to see how the episode continues, waiting 2-3 minutes to see what will happen in the episode is completely tolerable and what TV watchers always experienced until the stupid 'coming up next on...' was invented.

Customer Service: Why do callers just blurt out their specific issue instead of generalizing to get started?

Posted by Lauren L on Aug 18, 2015 9:54:30 AM

I am a 'support engineer' at a software company. Users of the software call the 1-800 number and ask how-to questions or tell me there is an issue with the software. Since working at the company for over four years, I have spoken to every type of customer out there. From the chatty, friendly user to the angry, demanding customer. It never seems to matter to me their reason for calling as much as it is the proper phone etiquette they use. Most of the users I receive calls from seem to get the concept of providing general details of their reason for calling. Once I can reflect aloud and tell them I would be happy to take a look, then I ask for specific details.

Why do prescription drug companies advertise on television?

Posted by Lauren L on Jan 22, 2014 4:05:00 PM

This literally makes no sense. Average Joe is at home watching 'Sports Center' on ESPN when the show breaks to a commercial for Cialis, an erectile dysfunction prescription medication, that can only be acquired via your doctor. The only people that should be aware of prescription medicine are your doctors who decide based on your symptoms that the particular medication is the best solution.

Why do doctors say "...in moderation"? WTF Does "in moderation" even mean?

Doctors are like a retail store. They tell you things and prescribe you things that helps their store or industry as opposed to what is really true in life. Even the daytime show called, 'The Doctors', advertises health-related products who are simply sponsors/advertisers of the show! I hate going to doctors, unless it is to check for facts. Blood tests are great because they test for actual issues and produce factual, scientific facts and evidence.

Why do people smoke cigarettes in their car in the winter?

Posted by Lauren L on Nov 13, 2013 5:42:00 PM

Why on earth do people still smoke cigarettes on a regular basis? I mean.....when I go outside to get some fresh air, I expect the scent of grass and trees and flowers and a nice breeze. Unfortunately, I am often greeted with the scent of cigarette smoke. I mean.....smoking isn't even cool anymore!! Smoking was cool when James Dean did it and when Don Draper portrays a cool guy in the 60's, but smoking on your lunch break by yourself is just sad. I mean come on.

Why do people stand still on escalators?

Posted by Lauren L on Jun 4, 2013 7:51:00 AM

Why do people stand still on escalators? They are already moving involuntarily which cuts the walk in half. That's fine if they aren't in a hurry, but how lazy can you be??? The worst is when people stand still in the middle of the step, so that for people like me who don't want to be lazy, cannot walk past them down the escalator stairs. I am not going to bother saying 'excuse me' because it's not worth it considering you are only standing on the escalator for -1 minute, but still.
